It's time to move the Code Mill
For a while now Posterous has been hosting the Code Mill. I moved to Posterous because I never got around to coding the site that I have in mind.
But for most of that time on Posterous I've felt that Posterous wasn't the right fit. Awkward support for Markdown. The insistance that images need to be uploaded to Posterous for tumbnails to be available on index pages. The focus is on quick grab shots or short posts. Where I prefer to use Flickr and Twitter for those.
So I'm going to move the Code Mill again. No, I haven't coded up the site I have in mind. I'm still too busy with work and projects on our land. I'm going to try out Jekyll and have Github host my blog. I use Github frequently for my work and open source code and perfer to write documents in Markdown in a proper text editor. In addition to hosting code, Github also hosts pages for documentation or as in my case blogs.
Thanks to iOS apps such as Nocs, Note & Share or Write 2 (to name but a few) combined with Dropbox it is trivial to work on a blog post from anywhere.
I expect the switch to take place in a week or so.
